Empowering Women's Lives: Access to Contraception for Informed Choices and Global Impact

Read: 753

Accessibility and autonomy are at the core of women's empowerment, allowing individuals to navigate their reproductive rights based on their unique needs throughout their lives.

A woman's journey through her life stages is multifaceted and varies from person to person. What might suit one may not necessarily another; the decisions that align best with a specific individual can evolve over time.

Investing in sexual and reproductive health and rights is instrumental for social and economic growth, enhancing lives and contributing significantly to an economy's dynamism via long-term benefits for individuals, families, and communities. Ensuring access to contraception and making choices accessible empowers women by giving them control over their bodies and destinies. This allows girls to continue pursuing education and honing their professional skills, thereby increasing women's participation in the economic sphere and society at large. When pregnancies are prevented alongside mitigating risks associated with female genital mutilation, death and disability rates decrease, leading to increased years of healthy life. Such improvements foster a vibrant female workforce contributing to societal progress.

Unfortunately, it is estimated that over 257 million women globally struggle to meet their contraceptive needs, with many facing displacement due to conflict or natural disasters.

Every year, UNFPA ensures the distribution of quality-assured and economically viable contraceptives on a large scale, reaching women and adolescents across developmental and itarian contexts worldwide.

To celebrate World Contraception Day, we reaffirm our commitment that all women and adolescents should have unfettered access to voluntary contraceptive choices regardless of their circumstances or locations.
